Tech & Innovation : ANEVIA

ANEVIA, headquartered near Paris was founded in 2003 by the team which developed, in France, the world famous VLC Media Player. Building on this experience, ANEVIA with its new software called ViaMotion allows telecom operators, broadcasters and content owners like private companies to optimize and monetize video delivery.

In 2017, video will represent no less than 69 % of all internet traffic worldwide. However, the traditional content delivery networks (CDNs) are not configured to optimize video delivery at this level of traffic. A new video solution is required to cope with the proliferation of channels, video formats (Apple HLS, Microsoft Smooth Streaming, etc.), and end devices (smartphones, tablets, connected TVs, Xboxes, PCs, laptops) which will create important bandwidth jams.

This has given ANEVIA an opportunity to provide a comprehensive software

video solution to the problem through ViaMotion. This software ensures that only one video stream transits on the network. The format conversion, that is the packaging, is carried out on-the-fly, providing massive relief to the heart of the CDNs.

The bandwidth usage is considerably reduced and storage optimized, which slashes costs by a factor of ten for an operator or broadcaster, according to ANEVIA’s CEO Tristan Leteurtre.  The software has also been designed to allow time-shifting such as video on demand (VoD) which allows subscribers to record and watch programs at their convenience, without the requirement of a personal video recorder.

ANEVIA does 66% of its turnover outside France. Its clients include BBC, Sky TV, Telefonica, ETISALAT the leading operator in the Middle East and Truevisions the leading broadcaster in Thailand. It has regional offices in the USA, Brazil, Dubai and Singapore.

ANEVIA offered its shares to the general public in June 2014 through an Initial Public Offering (IPO). This was successfully carried out on the Paris Stock Exchange, Alternext, with the issue 4.3 times oversubscribed. The €5M raised is to be used mainly for increasing commercial deployment worldwide.
