After an outstanding performance against Brazil in the semi-final, Germany won the football world cup final against Argentina during extra time. In the preliminary group matches Ghana managed a draw in their match against Germany. The tournament which took place in Brazil in July 2014 attracted massive television audiences and advertising receipts worldwide.

After the end of this World Cup, France remains the only country ever to have won all five FIFA tournaments in men’s international football. The French winning streak stands as follows :

FIFA World Cup 1998

FIFA Confederations Cup 2001 and 2003

FIFA Olympic Games 1984

FIFA Under 20 World Cup 2013

FIFA Under 17 World Cup 2001

Some of the young French Under 20 World Cup winners in Turkey in 2013 will probably join other French players in the English Premier League which is the world’s richest football league.

More countries are stamping their mark on the world football scene. Nigeria and Ghana for example have been recent winners of the World Cup Under 20 and Under 17 tournaments.
