Paris-based multinational DANONE, the world’s largest producer of dairy products is to purchase US leading organic and health food maker WhiteWave, doubling the French company’s presence in the American market and making it the world’s largest producer of organic food.
DANONE, known for its yogurt products like Activia, Actimel, baby foods, Evian and Volvic water, has for a long time centered its sales on healthy sustainable food products, a non-GMO supply chain and medicinal food (alicaments). These fit in with WhiteWave which makes Horizon brand organic dairy products, plant-based alternatives to milk and yogurt like Silk brand almond and soya milk, Earthbound Farm salads etc.
With WhiteWave which has an annual revenue of nearly $4 bn (€3.64 bn), DANONE will be able to benefit from the surge in demand for healthy and organic foods with low fat and cholesterol which are transforming the food industry in the US.
Emmanuel Faber, DANONE’s CEO since 2014, born in the alpine pastures near Grenoble is known to promote a moral, ethical and socially responsible approach to business.
With the $10bn acquisition of WhiteWave he hopes that DANONE’s present annual global revenue of €22.5bn and its profits will increase substantially, through a global business centered on health and natural products.
